This is a brief summary of the food product standards for the Oklahoma Food Cooperative.  These standards relate to items like meats, produce, and dairy.

1. Locality of production.  Everything we sell is grown or made in the state of Oklahoma and is sold by the producer who made or grew it.  Producers are not allowed to buy wholesale and sell retail except that prepared and processed food producers can buy wholesale ingredients to use in their prepared foods and non-food producers can buy materials to make their products.  The Coop itself is allowed to buy wholesale and sell retail for the benefit of the Coop as a whole system, but nothing that the Coop sells competes with our producer members.

2.  Free ranging flocks and herds. Meat and poultry producers cannot use routine antibiotics or animal products in feeds, nor can they use bovine growth hormone.  All flocks and herds must be free-ranging.

3. Transparency of production practices.  We do not regulate in detail other production practices, but all food producers are required to declare their production practices at their producer information page.  There is a link to each producer's information page with their product listings. All the producers' pages are linked at  That producer list is linked on the About drop down tab.  To find details about their production practices, click on their link and read what they have to say.  If that information is missing from their producer information page, please email the Standards Committee so we can get that corrected.

4. Certification.  There are three national certifications presently used by our producers:  Certified Organic, Certified Naturally Grown, and Animal Welfare Approved.  Click on one of these links to learn more about those certifications.

5.  Product descriptions and ingredients.  All products are required to have a product description.  Prepared and processed foods must include a complete list of the ingredients involved with the preparation of the product. The product description must clearly describe what the customer is getting and how much they are getting.   If you find a product with a problem (no ingredient list, unclear or missing info about amount, etc), please email our Standards Committee and we will take care of it.
